Authenticity and Appraisal Policy

Documents, reports and assurance for every work

Buying art is a matter of trust. At Safranhan we guarantee the authenticity of every work we sell through the following steps.

Documents

  • Provenance record: The work's history of ownership from the artist to today, with exhibition and publication information.
  • Condition report: A photographed report by a conservator describing the surface, canvas or paper, frame and signature.
  • Certificate of authenticity: A document signed by the artist, their estate or an expert.
  • Invoice: A statutory invoice and the work's label details.

Appraisal process

For works submitted for valuation, our specialists first give a view from photographs. Works to be sold or auctioned are examined in person; where necessary an independent expert's opinion is sought. If a work's authenticity is found doubtful in appraisal, it is not accepted for sale.

Returns and objections

If a documented authenticity problem is found within 14 days of delivery, the price is refunded. For auction sales, return conditions are set out in the Auction Terms. This policy does not limit your statutory consumer rights.
